Ruel, our namesake, was found suffering from malnutrition in a hospital due to a cleft lip with cleft palate. He was unable to suckle properly or ingest food to satisfy his growing body. His mother could not afford the surgery to rectify this ailment, or the nutrients necessary to provide her child with an adequate diet.
