170 Donation Boxes
05 August 2009
Liz our Public Relations Co-ordinator is amazed at the amount we collect in the boxes and how generous people can be. Recently we modified the look of the donation boxes to look brighter and more noticeable, thanks to Ignoto Marketing in Tauranga who came up with some great ideas. Our aim has been to get our message out there so that we can fund more surgery, take in more abandoned and unwanted children, and have an impact in Third World countries.
Liz recently travelled with her family over to Calapan where Ruel House operates in the Philippines and yet again was amazed at the situations of some families. "So so poor and desperate. Living in situations where we wouldn't keep our pets in even! It is such an honour to work at Ruel and fundraise to make a huge difference in the lives of not just the children but the families and villages too" she said.
They visited a village to check the health of the children and met a family of three boys. Their mother had died and the father refused to take responsibility for feeding them. The oldest (just ten) was left alone to keep himself and his younger brothers alive. Several mothers had died in childbirth and because the village was so impoverished they couldn't get milk to feed the babies. The Ruel Foundation provided the necessary milk powder for the babies but because the children's home was full they were unable to help the boys immediately.
We are in the process of fundraising to build a larger children's home which will be able to take 30 children rather than 10. Ruel is saving lives and we want to thank all those who host our boxes and all who drop in their loose change. A big thank you too to Childsplay who donated toys for the children.

Ruel, our namesake, was found suffering from malnutrition in a hospital due to a cleft lip with cleft palate. He was unable to suckle properly or ingest food to satisfy his growing body. His mother could not afford the surgery to rectify this ailment, or the nutrients necessary to provide her child with an adequate diet. Thanks to the simple surgery to rectify this problem Ruel is now a happy and healthy little boy.
