Children in Crisis and Mid-wifery Medical Training

This special three week training program prepares the students to care for children who are facing life threatening situations from physical abuse, starvation and abandonment.

The program is run by professional Ruel Foundation staff and is based on World Health Organization (WHO) training standards and includes WHO training in all aspects of midwifery.

The object is to produce students who can understand and assist in the needs of pregnant women and young children in a crisis situation.

Students will be confronted with the high infant and mother mortality rate in the Philippine Islands. Training in pre-natal and post-natal care will be part of the course. Training will also be given in many areas of children at risk. Students will work along side of Filipino healthcare professionals practically applying their newly learnt skills in real life situations.

The program will be lead by Pauline Curtis-Smith, Ruel Foundations Director for the Philippines. Pauline has completed training in Integrated Management of Childhood Illness with the World Health Organization and served in the Philippines for many years working with children in need.

The Ruel Foundation is a faith-based organization that reflects Christ's compassion for the poor and oppressed. There will also be a spiritual dynamic in the school during which time the students will pray together for the poor and needy.

The school will be held on the island of Oriental Mindoro. These costs include food, accommodation, lectures and outreach costs.

Graduates will be issued with a Ruel Foundation certificate recognizing their achievements in completing the training, a CPR certificate, and an IMCI certificate from WHO. Opportunities will be provided to serve with the Ruel Foundation after course completion for successful applicants.
